历时400年(公元493–907年)在石灰岩峭壁上雕凿的10万余尊佛教石刻。17米高的卢舍那大佛是人类历史上最伟大的雕塑之一。这里是中国佛教艺术达到巅峰之处。景区共有2345个洞窟和龛室、2800处碑刻题记和43座塔。
西山石窟是主要景点。前往东山可俯瞰伊河对岸西山全景——最佳拍照位置。早晨前来,佛像面部光线柔和。奉先寺的卢舍那大佛是最大亮点。夜间灯光秀同样壮观。
